The best mother, granny and great-grandmother in the world, she passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, at the age of 70 at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice after a long battle with breast and bone cancer.

Mrs. Laiche was a native of Union and a resident of St. Amant. She graduated from Romeville High School with honors and was attending River Parishes Community College where she was on the Dean's List. She had worked as head teller at the Bank of Gonzales and at Southland Fire and Safety Equipment as an assistant bookkeeper. She was a lifetime member of the Gonzales VFW Post 3693.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gerald J. Laiche; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Geron Crotwell, and Elizabeth and Travis Deweese; grandchildren, Jared and Tiffany Crotwell, Haley and Chelsey Deweese, and Travis Deweese Jr.; great-grandchildren, Alanna Crotwell and Noah Stevens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Massi and Gloria, and Nathaniel "Totsie" Massi and Dorothy "Dot"; sister and brother-in-law, Josephine Alford and Johnny; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, Jennie Giamalva and Gasper G. Massi.

There will be a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Amant, on Monday, Nov. 7, from 8:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Galea, celebrant. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Jared Crotwell, Travis Deweese Jr., Kevin Pitre, David Massi, Jeffrey Massi and Anthony "Pete" Massi. Honorary pallbearers are Geron Crotwell, Travis Deweese Sr., Nicky Prejean and Alfred Taillon.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Rao Narro, Dr. Stagg and Dr. Christian, St. Joseph Hospice, to all the staff at The Carpenter House, and St. James Behavioral Health.
