Mrs. John Barnard died at her home 3 miles north of Towanda, IL. She was born Dec. 2, 1862. She was married to John M. Barnard, March 1, 1882, in Money Creek Township. She has lived in the Towanda neighborhood all of her life.
Surviving are the husband, a daughter, Mrs. W. B. Eaton, two sons, Earnest E and Leonard, 7 grandchildren, a sister Mrs. Etta Burrows and Lucy Lee Jameson who made her home with the Barnard's since she was a young girl.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church.

Susan and her husband built a grand Queen Anne Victorian home on their family farm and it still stands. She was known for her Christmas Home Bureau parties every year where the entire neighborhood attended. Great heaping platters of food were served, the attic was used for dancing as a small band played. Many activities were included for the children including small plays, readings, and sleighing. She was confined to a wheel chair in her latter years due to arthritis.
