On March 4, 1945
Gerry married her high school and college sweetheart, Thomas R. Gentry Sr. They raised four (usually) wonderful children: Tom "Chip" Gentry Jr., Akron; Robin Seeley (Jim), Suffield; Bill Gentry (Erica), Kent; and Julie Otto (Danny), Tallmadge.
Preceded in death by her sister Henrietta "Hank" Christie Tarbox, Gerry is survived by her husband and children, sister Doris Helsel (Dale), eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives.
Gerry was a loving wife and mother, kind, pretty and intelligent. She was a tireless worker, friend to the less fortunate, proud cook, bird fancier (and formidable squirrel foe), sharpshooter, sharp dresser, avid gardener and lover of chocolate.
Gerry was also quite a grammar fussbudget, having taught grades 1-4 after graduating from the University of Akron, where she pledged the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later worked buying and selling antiques and collectibles at Yesterday's Things and Ivory Manor, maintained a space at Riverfront Mall, and conducted countless garage and estate sales.
Gerry's other activities were numerous and varied, including the Whatnot Club, PTA president, bowling leagues, bridge groups, the Florence Crittenton Home, Goodyear Heights Methodist Church and later Goodyear Heights Baptist Church.
She co-founded Love Furniture of Tallmadge in 1968 and volunteered at polling places for many years.
A memorial service was held on Monday, December 26—which would have been Gerry's 89th birthday—at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Boulevard, Akron, Ohio.
