Excerpt -- Washington, D.C. -- Mrs. Emma S. Mattingly, 86, widow of John E. Mattingly, a native of Howesville, W.Va., and a resident of Morgantown, W.Va., for many years, died here Sunday at the residence, 10 Tenth Street, N. E., after a long illness. Mrs. Mattingly, the former Emma Gocke, was a sister to Thomas W. Gocke, of Piedmont, W.Va. She moved to Washington in 1940. Surviving are two daughters, Miss E. Pauline Mattingly, a music instructor at Wilson Teachers College here, and Mrs. David B. Reger, Morgantown, a nephew, Paul H. Gocke, of Washington Bureau of the Associated Press, who she reared from infancy, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A requiem mass will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Howesville, with interment following in the church cemetery.
