Suggested edit: Robert W. Mayfield, 95, formerly of Massillon, more recently of Holiday, Florida, passed away there, in the comfort of his daughter's home, on Sunday afternoon, August 22, 2021. Born in Massillon, January 19, 1926, a son to the late Peter and Zora (Mathis) Mayfield, Bob graduated from Washington High School with the Class of 1944. He served honorably in the US Army during the final year of World War II and received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals along with his other service awards. Most of his work-life was spent with Republic Steel Corp. in Massillon. A devoted husband and a supportive dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, Bob loved his family dearly and enjoyed their company more than anything.

Predeceased by his parents and in 2012, by his wife, Joan H. (Werner) Mayfield; Bob is survived by his son, Kenneth R. Mayfield, of Hartford, Alabama, and daughters, Nancy Jo (David) Bucci, of Holiday, Florida and Elaine L. King, of Norfolk, Virginia. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Dale Mayfield, of Massillon and Carl Mayfield, of Canal Fulton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, August 28, 2021, at Atkinson Feucht Hare Funeral Home in Massillon. Fr. Thomas Cebula will officiate.
