Deacon Andrew Mayfield, Jr. Deacon Andrew Mayfield, Jr. was born on February 5, 1928 in Baskin, Louisiana to Andrew, Sr. and Rosie Lee Jackson Mayfield.

Andrew enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959. After his discharge from the military, he made his home in Topeka, Kansas.

He was employed with the following companies: Cargill Flour Mill, Atlas Van Lines, both in Topeka, Kansas; Hamm's Quarry in Perry, Kansas; HDB Construction, Company; Mayflower, Laidlaw and Durham Bus Services. He retired from Hamm's in 1991. He was a bus driver and he drove preschoolers to and from Sheldon Head Start for more than 17 years. He retired from his bus driver duties in April, 2008.

Deacon Mayfield united with the Second Baptist Church, 424 NW Laurent, Topeka, Kansas, in 1979 and became very active in the various ministries of Second Baptist. He attended Sunday School, Prayer meeting, Bible study and worship services faithfully until the last year when his health began to fail. He was ordained as a Deacon and was serving as Deacon chairperson at the time of his death.

On Thursday evening, September 12, 2013, Deacon Mayfield completed his earthly journey and went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, his wife, Lois; eight sons, Cleo Doyle, Maryland; Michael Mayfield, Topeka, Kansas; Percy (Para) Mayfield, Wichita, Kansas; Andrew Mayfield III, Topeka, Kansas; Jim (Robin) Mayfield, Prairie Village, Kansas; Nick (Bobbi) Mayfield, Doral Mayfield and Frank Mayfield, all of Topeka, Kansas; five daughters, Augustine Mayfield, Oakley, California; Jessie (Mark) Ferguson; Lillian Marie Mayfield and Brenda (James) Charay, both of Topeka, Kansas and Rosie Lee Mayfield, St. Paul, Minnesota; three step-daughters, Lori (Terrol) McNeal, Kansas City, Kansas; Letitia Drake, Virginia Beach, Virginia and Jennifer Gibson, Topeka, Kansas, 39 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 610 SE Lime Street. Visitation will be Friday, September 20 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 424 NW Laurent.
