Marie Duke, daughter of M.A. "Tuck" and Emily (Graham) Mayfield was born November 11, 1909 at Crystal City, Texas. She died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Greenbrier Skilled Nursing Center in Enid. She was 97 years of age..
Marie moved to Sentinel, Oklahoma with her family where she was raised. She graduated from Sentinel High School with the class of 1928. She was united in marriage to Ivan Yuel Duke, May 3, 1931 at Taloga. They have made their home southeast of Seiling where they farmed for many years. Ivan preceded her in death December 19, 1981. Marie continued living and working on their farm. She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard and gardening and she also liked to quilt. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women's group. .
She is survived by one daughter: LaVere Cash of Cherokee; three sons: Paul Gene Duke of Seiling, Hershel Duke and wife Neta of Yukon and Dr. Chuck Duke and wife Jacquelyn of Amarillo, Texas; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren besides several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded by her parents, three sisters: Nellie Furr, Ethel Bond and Allie Strecker and three brothers; Bob, Jack and Mugs Mayfield..
The funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the First Unitd Methodist Church with Pastor Roland Luelf, officiating. Interment was in the Brumfield Cemetery under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.redingerfuneralhome.com..
