Rose Marie Batson, 86, loving mother and grandmother of Mohan's Run, Mannington, and who resided in Barrackville, passed away on Friday (Jan. 18, 2008) at St. Barbara's Nursing Home in Monongah.

She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Monongalia County, a daughter of the late Simon G. and Vianna M. Jones Mayfield.

She is survived by two daughters, DeEtta and husband Ronald B. Tennant of Monumental, and Karen "Cookie" and husband David J. Hunter of Barrackville; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Peg Batson of Mohan's Run, Mannington; several nieces and nephews; and two foster children who were raised in the Batson home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Batson; two sons, Arnold "Butch" Batson and Ronnie Lee Batson; granddaughter, Peggy Lynn Batson; great-grandson, Christopher Allen Burgess; five sisters, Bessie Taylor, Opal Arthur, Ethel King, Pearl Blatt and Ruby McCann; two infant sisters; and three brothers, Otis, Leo and Emmett Mayfield.

Marie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was retired from the Marion County Board of Education as a custodian with 34 years of service. She was manager of the concession stand at the Blackshere Drive-In Theatre for many years. She was a member of the Mannington Church of the Nazarene and attended the Bethesda Baptist Church while residing in Barrackville. She was very active in the Mannington Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.

Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. Sunday at the Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Care Corp. and St. Barbara's Nursing Home for the loving care given to Mrs. Batson.
