Obituary
Mary C. Broeske of Rolling Meadows
A graveside service for Mary C. Broeske (nee McGann), 86, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery Chapel, Palatine.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. at her daughter's home in Elgin, after the service at St. Michael.
Born June 18, 1918, in Chicago, Mary died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at her daughter's home.
Mary was among the first residents of Rolling Meadows, building the family home at 2403 Cardinal in 1955. She encouraged and enabled her family to participate in the formation of the first volunteer fire department, schools, churches and youth groups. She was actively involved with St. Colette Church, ironing the altar clothes weekly for many years. She was known affectionately as "Granny" to the hundreds of children she supervised during recess at Cardinal School. She loved the big bands and rock and roll, gardens and the critters in them. She took great pride in her family and her town and promoted both to whomever would listen. She is already missed. She was the wife of the late Irwin; mother of Barbara, Martin, Thomas (Michelle) and the late Lawrence Broeske; grandmother of Griffin, Leah, Mark and Michael Broeske, and Patrick Zeller; and sister of the late William and Jack McGann. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60010. Arrangements were made by the Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.
