Talithia married Stephen Maxwell in 1944, and from this union were five children.
They lived in Columbus, GA for forty years, where she was a long-time member of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church, and was fondly known as "Mama Tea". She moved to Laurel, MD in 2001.
At the age of eighty-four, Talithia moved with her Daughter and son-in-law to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. There, she was the oldest member of the United States Diplomatic Community. She met President Barack Obama during his first visit outside of the United States to Ottawa, ON in February 2009.
In 2011, Talithia returned to Maryland for a brief time, and subsequently moved to Foxhollow Assisted Living in Pinehurst, NC, just a few miles from her birthplace.
Talithia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she took pride in her family and well-run home.
While at Foxhollow, she was a favorite of the residents, visiting family members, and staff. She was loved by many.
Talithia was predeceased by her husband, Stephen, in May of 1999, and her daughter and namesake, Talithia, in October of 2009.
A service for Mrs. Maxwell will be held at a later date in Columbus, GA, and she will be laid to rest in the Ft Mitchell Veteran Cemetery, in Ft Mitchell, AL.
