WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Elizabeth (Betsy) Lyne Meade Hastings died on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 after a long struggle with cancer. Betsy was born June 22, 1934, in Danville, the daughter of the late Edwin Baylies Meade and Madeline Read Meade.

After graduating from Sweet Briar College and serving as secretary to the dean of Harvard Divinity School for several years, she moved to Atlanta, where she was associated with the Atlanta Constitution and later the Westminster School, the Lovett School, and Walk Through the Bible International.

She was a member of the Sweet Briar Alumnae Club, Habersham Garden Club, Colonial Dames, Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross, and All Saints' Episcopal Church.

In addition to her devoted husband, Donald Madison Hastings Jr., Betsy is survived by her two sons, Donald M. Hasting III, M.D. (a medical missionary in China), his wife Maggie and their daughter, Anna; and Christopher M. Hastings of Alpharetta, Ga., his wife Amy and their sons, Hunter and Riley. She also leaves two brothers, Edwin B. Meade Jr. (Lucy), of Richmond and Frank O. Meade (Joby), of Hilton Head Island, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
