HANNAH MEADE ALTON, Wife of Richard Alton Mrs. Hannah Alton, one of the old and well known residents of this city died last night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Culver of Junction City, from kidney trouble with which she had been ailing for sometime. Mrs. Alton went to the home of her daughter about two months ago. The news of her death has been a great shock to her relatives and her many friends here. She was a very industrious woman, kind hearted to an unusual degree, and always ready to answer a call for assistance from any one in sickness or trouble. Many a poor person has found in her a friend and helper even when it may have been hard for her to provide assistance. She would have been willing to divide her last bit of bread with anyone in need. She has led a hard working life and has certainly earned the rest into which she has entered. Her children have lost a good mother, but they can feel glad that in her later years they have been able in a degree to return the care and attention which she so freely gave to them. (Death would have been December 17th.) Mrs. Alton was for many years an active member of the W.R.C.
The deceased was sixty years of age, and was born at Cedar Creek, in this county. (Washington County.) Her maiden name was Hannah Meade. She was married to Richard Alton about forty four years ago, Mr. Alton being her second husband. Mr. Alton preceded his wife in death a number of years ago.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Fred Culver of Junction City, and George and Charles of this city. (Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin.) The funeral will take place in this city Monday, the services to be held at the Methodist Church, with Rev. Henne officiating.

The funeral of Mrs. Hannah Alton of whose death more extended mention was made in our last Friday's issue, took place last Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church. The Rev. Henne officiated. The body arrived here Saturday evening, a special from Horicon bringing the casket, as the train from Portage was too late for connections to be made. Briefly, the outline of Mrs. Alton's life is as follows.
Hannah D. Meade was born January 19, 1847, at West Bend, Wisconsin. On July 4th, 1870, she was married at West Granville, to Richard R. Alton, and moved to Hartford, where they resided until called to answer the roll call of the eternal home. Mr. Alton preceded his wife in death seven years ago. Three children remain to mourn the loss of a beloved mother, Mrs. Fred Culver, at whose home in Junction City Mrs. Alton was visiting when her death came, and two sons, George and Charles of this city

State of Wisconsin, County of Washington,:
Personally appeared before me the undersigned, duly authorized to administer oaths within the County and State aforesaid Hannah D. Alton, aged 55 years, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Richard Alton in Co. A of the 14th Regiment of Wisconsin Vols., and served at least ninety days in the late War of the Rebellion, who was honorably discharged and died on the 24th day of March 1902. That she was married to said soldier under the name of Hanna D. Towle on the 4th day of July, 1870, there being no legal barrier to said marriage. That claimant was married before said time to Simon Towle who died on the 17th day of December 1869. That said Richard R. Alton was never married previous to his marriage to claimant. That she has not remarried since the death of said soldier above named and is without other means of support than her daily labor. That the names and dates of birth of all the children of soldier now living and under sixteen years of age at the date of soldier's death are as follows:
There are no children now under the age of sixteen years.
That she has never applied for pension before this time. That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the United States under the provisions of the Act of June 27, 1890. That she appoints P.A. Rix of Hartford, Wisconsin, her attorney to prosecute this claim and agrees to pay him a fee of ten dollars therefor if successful. That her Post Office address is Hartford, county of Washington, State of Wisconsin.
