She was born on March 11, 1920, in Youngstown, the son of the late Frank and Bessie (Thompson) Metcalfe.
Genevieve was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended the Cleveland Conservatory of Case Western Reserve, and also attended Mount Union College. She was employed by Congregation Rodef Shalom Temple of Youngstown as the organist and choir director for 35 years. She was the pipe organist and pianist for many Youngstown area churches and local funeral homes throughout her entire life. She also played at the Maennerchor, and the Saxon clubs. She was a member of DAR, traveled to Europe several times, as well as many other locations.
Memories of Genevieve will be carried on by her children, daughter Genevieve M. (Joseph F. Bailey Jr.) Bauman of Warren, daughter Beth (Edwardo) DeFunes-Hartmann of El Salvador, son Richard G. Bauman Jr. of Canfield, daughter Christine A. (Charlie) Long of Prospect, son Arthur R. Bauman of Walkersville, Md., daughter Joanne L. (Brian Adkins) Lewis of Brookfield, and daughter Jeannette B. (Larry) York of Okinawa, Japan and Howland Township; grandsons Roberto Avila, Julio Avila, James F. Lewis II, and D’Andrew Soltis; granddaughters Beth Marie Hernandez, Jamie DeLisio, and Julie McCune; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Atty. Richard G. Bauman, whom she married Nov. 1, 1943, and preceded her in death in 2004; daughter Stephanie J. Soltis; daughter-in-law Judy Bauman; and sisters Dorothy Cadzow, Marjorie Bundgard, and Betty O. MacDougall.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home in Warren. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. David Kanphuis of the Martin Lutheran Church of Youngstown will officiate. Services of final committal will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.
