COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Gladys Metcalfe Blake, 94, of Cookeville will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Blake died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at her daughter's home in Cookeville.
She was born on April 15, 1908, in Clarksville to the late Erskine and Mattie Martin Metcalfe. Mrs. Blake was a retired teacher and dental assistant. She was a member of Dodson Branch Missionary Baptist Church.
Her family includes a daughter and soninlaw, Janet and Jim Phillips of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Wes and Jill Phillips, both of Cookeville; three nieces, Patsy Emmett, Faye Burgess and Joann Stanley; and a nephew, Tommy Metcalfe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Blake; a brother, Dave B. Metcalfe; and a nephew, Wayne Metcalfe.
