At age 15, she left Iowa and began her 10-year journey to Oregon by hitchhiking to Sayer, Okla., where she worked as a waitress, a nanny and a school teacher. Later, she moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she began her 45-year career with Greyhound Bus Lines. She lived in Las Vegas and Gilroy, Calif., before moving to Grants Pass. In 1933, she became the commissioned agent for Greyhound in Grants Pass and, in 1942, she turned the agency over to her sister, Ina McCarthy. She also enjoyed sitting in the parked car and watching people walk by and going for long drives with her daughter Joan.

Survivors include two daughters, Joan Momsen of Grants Pass and Oma Vincent of Arcata, Calif.; and a sister, Clara McMahon of Framingham, Mass.
