One of 10 siblings, she was born a twin on May 13, 1908, near Butler in Bate County, Mo. She was raised near Cameron, Mo., and Osceola, Iowa. At age 15, she left Iowa and began her 10-year journey to Oregon by hitchhiking to Sayer, Okla., where she worked as a waitress, a nanny and a school teacher. Later, she moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she began her 45-year career with Greyhound Bus Lines. She lived in Las Vegas and Gilroy, Calif., before moving to Grants Pass. In 1933, she became the commissioned agent for Greyhound in Grants Pass and, in 1942, she turned the agency over to her sister, Ina McCarthy. She worked at the Greyhound depot on and off until she retired in 1973.
On Nov. 1, 1939, in Carson City, Nev., she married Julius "Dutch" Momsen, who died Jan. 4, 1984.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary for 50 years. She enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, traveling, sewing, crossword puzzles, and collecting cups and saucers, vases and banana labels. She also enjoyed sitting in the parked car and watching people walk by and going for long drives with her daughter Joan.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Momsen of Grants Pass and Oma Vincent of Arcata, Calif.; and a sister, Clara McMahon of Framingham, Mass.
