Mrs. Momsen, Native of Maryland, Wife of Naval Inventor Funeral services were held at Fort Myers Chapel this morning for Mrs. Charles B. Momsen, descendant of an old Georgetown family and wife of the Navy officer who invented the submarine escape device called the "Momsen Lung." She died Friday of a heart ailment in Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, San Francisco.
Mrs. Momsen, born Anna Lyles Offutt, was the daughter of Hilleary Lyles and Katherine Norfleet Offutt. Her great-grandfather on her mother's side was Major George Peter, one of the early mayors of Georgetown.
A native of Garrett Park, Maryland she was reared there and graduated from Western High School here. She and Rear Admiral Momsen were married in 1919. They lived in Fairfax County, Virginia when he was stationed here from 1947 to 1951.
In addition to her husband she leaves a son, Lieut. Comdr. Charles B. Momsen Jr., of San Diego, California; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Hailey of Norfolk, Virginia; her mother, Mrs. Hilleary L. Offutt Sr., of 5328 Forty-first Street Northwest; four brothers, Brig. General Harry D. Offutt and Hilleary L. Offutt Jr., both of Washington and Edward W. Offutt and A. Scott Offutt, both of Chevy Chase, Maryland; a sister, Mrs. Jane Offutt Worthington of the Forty-first Street address and six grandchildren.
Burial was in Arlington Cemetery.
