Marie Monaco Conway (Age 89)

Passed away peacefully on June 28, 2016 at Fairfax Hospital after a brief illness. Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years Edward F. Conway Jr., her children: Edward F. Conway III (Valerie) of Vienna, VA, Janice Marie Micka (Ed) of Oak Hill, VA, Thomas Vincent Conway (Sandra) of Aldie, VA, her sister Mrs. Janice Pucci of North Providence, RI, and grandchildren Michael Edward Conway, Allison Marie Micka and Edward (Johnny) John Micka and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Marie was born December 13, 1926 in Providence, RI to Josephine Paolinoand Vincent Monaco. She attended Mt Pleasant High School and Pembroke College of Brown University in Providence. After graduating, she taught school in Rhode Island before embarking on an adventure that would define the rest of her life. In 1953, Marie accepted a position to teach elementary school to American military dependent children whose families were stationed in Germany. Marie loved Europe, quickly making lifelong friends and traveling extensively. The most significant friend she met was a dashing young Air Force officer from Minnesota, Edward Francis Conway Jr. They soon became engaged and began making future plans for their return to the States. Marie married Ed in Providence on August 13, 1955 and soon after they relocated to Northern Virginia living in Arlington, North Springfield, Annandale and most recently Fairfax. Throughout the years, Marie remained very active raising her family, staying active in her local Catholic Church, and assisting a number of volunteer organizations most notably Fairfax FISH (For Immediate Sympathetic Help).

Visitation hours for Marie will be held on Wednesday, July 6 from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road Fairfax. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 7 at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Church, 5121 Woodland Way, Annandale, VA. Burial to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road Fairfax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairfax FISH, PO Box 2254, Fairfax, VA 22031 www.fairfaxfish.org.
