William Monnett was commissioned a colonel in the Ohio State Militia in 1840. On that same day he was granted a license to preach in the Methodist Episcopel Church. He also began raising cattle at a point in his life that allowed him to prosper from that investment. Married to Elizabeth Cahill, the couple had a large family. Their home, on Bucyrus' SE side overlooked the fairgrounds. His large home is pictured in one of Crawford County's atlases was torn down some years after his death.
NOTE: During his life, he was known as Col. Monnett, not Rev. Monnett. While he did spend some years behind the pulpit, Rev. Monnett was his uncle. He was known locally as Col. Monnett. (User: Shaley)
