Nora Moorhead Baker, 90, of Monroe, Georgia, formerly of Greensboro, Georgia and Asheville, North Carolina passed away on September 15, 2013 at Great Oaks Retirement Community in Monroe. Born in Buckhead, Georgia, on January 19, 1923, she was one of three children of the late Orian Alexander Moorhead and Lillian Lunsford Moorhead. She grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro High School. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She married James Watson Baker in 1950. They lived in Georgia and Florida and they retired in Asheville, North Carolina. She worked in the contracting program for the United States Veterans Administration in Gainesville, Florida and Asheville, North Carolina. She attended the East Asheville United Methodist Church. Nora enjoyed family, travel, reading, arts and crafts. She moved to Monroe to be close to family. She will be remembered for her generosity, wit and sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Watson Baker; a sister, Patricia Moorhead "Pat" Smith; and a brother, Alex Moorhead. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Ruth Baker Berrong, of Monroe, Georgia; niece, Anne Smith Roadman and husband, Charles H. "Chip" Roadman, of San Antonio, Texas; niece, Betty Layson of Conyers, Georgia; niece, Sandy Littlefield, of Jacksonville, Florida; niece, Ella Myrl "Pud" English and husband, Ben English, of St. Augustine, Florida; nephew, Larry B. Berrong and wife, Carolyn Berrong, of Monroe; niece, Cindy Whitlow and husband, Andy Whitlow, of Hartwell, Georgia; nephew, James A. "Al" Berrong and wife, Susan Berrong, of Knoxville, Tennessee; and nephew, Charlie G. "Jack" Berrong and wife, Pam Berrong, of Conyers, Georgia; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews. She was loved by long-time friends and the staff in the Gardens of Great Oaks.

Funeral Services will be held, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. George Rogers of Monroe officiating. Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are her nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service. The family requests any donations may be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025.
