SOUTH BEND - James A. Moorehead, 75, residing in South Bend, passed away unexpectedly Monday, March 14, 2016, in Memorial Hospital. He was born January 26, 1941, in Muncie, IN, to the late James Moorehead and Sara Kathryn Moorehead-Hicks.
James had lived in the South Bend area since 1969. On September 17, 1971, in South Bend, he married the former Patricia A. Hunter, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, he is also survived by five children, Jennifer A. (Edward) Moorehead-Reed of Lakeville, Sheri L. (Joseph Schmitt) Shoemaker of Mishawaka, LuAnn (Douglas) Thomas of Columbus, IN, David C. (Debra) Shoemaker of Buchanan, MI, and Victoria (Dennis) Stockton of Maryland; eight grandchildren, Christian, Mackenzie, Kellsie, Bryanna, Ryan, Elizabeth, Erica and Dennis James; and eight great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Nichols; and brother, John Moorehead.
James served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He retired from Shearer Communications in Granger, where he worked in installation and repair. James enjoyed sailing, remote control airplanes and glider planes. He also enjoyed target shooting with his grandson, working on electronics and home remodeling with his family and attending all of his grandchildren's activities.
Funeral services for James will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2016, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 12 noon until services time in the funeral home.
