After leaving the FBI, he returned to Cambridge to practice law. In 1952, he was elected Prosecuting Attorney for Guernsey County and served two terms. In 2007, he returned to Granville, Ohio, where he had attended college at Denison. There he renewed his friendship with Jane Tammen, with whom he had gone to Denison, and they spent the next eight years together. When Jane passed away in 2015, he moved to Charlottesville to be closer to his family. He loved his children and their families and cherished his time with them. He aged very gracefully, approaching life with a sense of humor, and he was always extremely kind and considerate of others. He was a model gracious gentleman and inspired many who knew him to try to emulate his attitude and behavior. Everyone who interacted with him felt better for having done so.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Home Instead, especially Missy Sims, and the staff of the Hospice of the Piedmont for the care and attention they provided.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911, www.hopva.org.
