Mary Elizabeth Kuharski passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in St. George, Utah, where she had been residing the past year. She was born July 4, 1913, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Margaret H. Raidy and Fred Thomas Morrison, the second of four children.

Her Mother died when Mary was six years old. She and her siblings were placed in a parochial school orphanage while her father worked for the police department, the railroad and leased a small farm in Pocatello. When her father remarried in 1923, the family was reunited and Mary attended schools in Pocatello.

In 1928, the family moved to a ranch at North Fork, Idaho. A summer trip with a girlfriend enabled Mary to meet her future husband, Steve. While on his rural mail route, he gave Mary and her friend a ride to Monteview. Romance ensued, and the two were married December 2, 1933, in Idaho Falls.

They made their home at Hamer, Idaho, until Steve completed his mail contract. The couple, along with daughter, Margaret, moved to a small farm at Birch Creek, Idaho. They remained there until 1935, when they moved to Monteview, Idaho, and purchased the Monteview Merc. from Steve's father.

Mary was busy with her garden, fruit trees and animals while assisting her husband in the store and community activities. While living at Monteview, Steve and Mary had a second daughter, Carol, and a son, Steve, Jr.

In 1948, the family moved to Idaho Falls to be closer to schools. Mary took a position for a short time with J. C. Penney Dept. store then worked at Gamble's Fine Foods for eight years. She spent the next 20 years at the City of Idaho Falls accounting department before retiring in 1978.

After 67 years of marriage, Steve Sr. died on July 3, 2001. Mary moved to an assisted living center in Idaho Falls late in 2002 and remained there until her move to St. George.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve Sr.; daughter, Carol Nelson Fitch; sister, Helen Roberts; brother, James N. Morrison; nephew, Bob C. Bare; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a grandson, Steve Kuharski III.

She is survived by daughter, Margaret (Scott) Hansen of St. George, Utah; son, Steve (Cheryl) Kuharski of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls, with Deacon Rick Bonney, celebrant. A viewing for family and friends will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.buckmillerhann.com.
