Mrs. Allie May Moxley Buxton

Allie May Moxley Buxton, age 93 died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at her home in Damascus, Md. She was the wife of the late Roscoe F. Buxton who died on November 7, 2001. They were married 61 1/2 years. Born on Saturday, September 1, 1917 on the family farm on Moxley Road, near Damascus, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Alvie A. and Maud Hurley Moxley.

Allie May was educated at the Clagettsville one-room school, seven grades, one teacher (Mr. Albert Warthen), then graduating from Damascus High School in 1934 as valedictorian. She attended Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel University, and graduated in 1938 with a degree in Secondary Education, Mathematics Department, Summa Cum Laude. She taught for the Montgomery County Board of Education in the Silver Spring, Takoma Park, and Potomac areas. She later became a real estate agent for the Jack Foley Real Estate Company. She also authored the genealogy book, "Nehemiah Moxley, His Clagettsville Sons and Their Descendants."

As a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher, a director of the Youth Choir, a member of the United Methodist Women, and a member of the Heritage Circle. She and her husband also served as leaders of the Youth Fellowship. For several years she and her family attended the First Assembly of God Church, Silver Spring, Maryland where, she was the teacher of the Ladies Bible Class. She and her husband were also very active in the Prison Ministry of Montgomery County.

She is survived by a son, Stephen A. Buxton, son-in-law David E. Beall, both of Damascus, grandson J. Michael Beall (Rebecca) of Frederick, and granddaughter, Julie Beall Richardson (Jim) of Damascus, six great-grandchildren, Michael Meadows, Jr., Victoria Markham, Kyle Markham, and Nick Richardson of Damascus, and M. Kristofer Beall and Josh Malone of Frederick, sister-in-law Ada Beacht, brother-in-law Roger and Chandra Buxton, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Buxton Beall on November 21, 2004, brother Harry Edward Moxley, sister-in-law Lucy Buxton Mullineaux and her husband Robert L. Mullineaux, and brother-in-law, Harold Beacht.

Allie May's desire for all people is to "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33 KJV. As Allie May references in her genealogy book, "Choose ye this day whom ye shall serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 KJV. Allie May ends her genealogy book by saying, "May we as family and friends do the same."

Visitation will be held on Tuesday 08/23/11 from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28325 Kemptown Road, Dama-scus, Maryland where services will be on Wednesday 08/24/11 at 10 AM. Pallbearers will be Denis Hood, Leonard Moxley, J. Michael Beall, Kristofer Beall, Thomas Shuggars, and Jeff Bruland. Junior Pallbearers will be Michael Meadows Jr, Kyle Markham, Josh Malone and Nick Richardson and Honorary Pall bearers Tina Bruland, Frank and Jean Matchner, Jesse Moxley and Catherine Warfield. Interment will follow the service in the Montgomery United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be given to the Memorial Fund at Montgomery United Methodist Church c/o Mrs. Beverly Shipley 28325 Kemptown Road, Damascus, Maryland 20872
