Nellie Murphy McGuire was born to Nicholas and Honoria (Nora) Geraghty Murphy in Orange, New Jersey on 20 Nov 1893. She was the third of their six children all of whom were orphaned when Nellie was eleven years old. Nellie became a maid at that young age in a private home, while her younger siblings were placed in orphanages. She married Evaristus Paul McGuire in 1913 or 1914 and spent the rest of her married life moving numerous times due to his job as a salesman for the Burroughs Adding Machine Co. Nellie and Evaristus (Everitt) had four children, Everitt, George, Dorothy and Eleanor. She died at the home of her son, George, after suffering a stroke in 1955.
