After twenty years in the business world, Evelyn left it to marry the widowed Alva J. Brasted. Settling in Alexandria, VA, where she was born and raised, the couple "had six beautiful years of unbelievable happiness" until Chaplain Brasted's death in May, 1965. Later, Mrs. Brasted found solace in working on his biography, "Soldier of God", which she felt compelled to write. She also continued her church activities, including those of choir member, Sunday School teacher and other church-oriented community work, in addition to her membership in the Military Chaplains' Wives Club which sponsored a servicemen's club in Washington D.C.
