BIRTH: Josephus Nadolinski was born in Jeziorzany, Gniezno, Poland on March 18th, 1847, and baptized on March 21, 1847, according to the original documents on szukajwarchiwach.pl. [Note: at the time of his birth, Jeziorzany was in the province of Poznan (Posen).]

PARENTS: Joseph's father was Valentin (Walter) Nadolinski, born in Slawno, Poland in 1801 and died February 17, 1869 in Jeziorzany.
Joseph's mother was Marianna Jarzyna, born July 1, 1810 in Waliszewo, Gniezno,and died June 2, 1860 in Jeziorzany.
Valentin and Marianna married on November 25, 1829 in Waliszewo, Gniezno, Poland.

SIBLINGS: Joseph was the youngest of his parents' five children. His four older siblings were Francisca Nadolinski Kruszczynski (1830-1871), Hedwigis (1839-1840), Joannes (1841-1852), and Stanislaus (Stanley) (1844-1928).
Joseph's mother died in 1860 and his father remarried to Marcianna Malczewska. From that marriage Joseph had five half siblings: Marianna Nadolinski Panowicz (1861-1925), Adalbert (1863-1886), Antonina Nadolinski Wozniak (1868-1940), Josephus (1869-1869), and Joannes (Jan) 1865-1887).

MARRIAGE: In 1873, according the the Poznan Project, Joseph Nadolinski, age 26, married Rosalia Antkowiak Niklas, age 23. They married in Dziekanowice, the nearby village that had the Catholic church in it.
[Rosalia had been married before, and she had a son named Franz, or Frank, Niklas. From the Poznan Project: "In 1867, Rosalia Antkowiak (17 years old) married Adalbertus Niklas (24 years old) in Dziekanowice."]

IMMIGRATION: In 1881, Joseph Nadolinski and his family, along with his brother Stanislaus (Stanley) Nadolinski and his family, immigrated on the ship Gemma from Hamburg to New York, arriving on May 10, 1881.
Joseph's residence is listed on the ship's manifest as having been Szymanowo, Poland.
On the passenger list the Nadolinkis were: Josef Nadolinski age 34, Rosalie 29, Franz [Niklas] (m) 9, Anna (f) 7, Bronislawa (f) 5, Stanislaus (m) 3, Wladislawa (f) 2, Thekla (f) 6 mos., and Barbara "Nadolinski" 60.
("Barbara Nadolinski" must be Barbara Duszynska Antkowiak, Rozalia's mother.)
And Joseph's brother's family: Stanislaus Nadolinski 37, Appolonia (Pauline) 29, Josef (m) 9, Franz (m) 7, Antonia (f) 3, Johann (m) 2, Marie (f) 9 mos., and Marie Nadolinski 32. Stanislaus was also listed as having lived in Szymanowo, Poland

NEBRASKA: Joseph settled at first in Elba, Nebraska, near his brother Stanley Nadolinski, his half brother Joannes (Jan) Nadolinski and his half sister Mary Nadolinski Panowicz. His half sister Antonina Nadolinski Wozniak also lived in Nebraska, in Omaha.

In Elba, Nebraska, Joseph and Rosalia Nadolinski had six more children: Pelagia b. 1881, Julia b. 1883, Ladislaus b. 1885, Julian b. 1888, John b. 1889, and Josephine, b 1891. They lived in Nebraska for at least ten years.

WISCONSIN: The family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and another child [probably their last], Regina, was born in 1893, according to the 1900 U.S. federal census. Joseph and his family remained in Milwaukee for the rest of their lives.

OCCUPATION: On the ship's passenger list when he immigrated, Joseph's occupation is named as "arbeiter." He was on a German ship, and arbeiter is a German word for "laborer" or "blue collar worker."
In the 1900 U.S. Census in Milwaukee, Joseph's occupation is listed as "saloon keeper."
In the 1910 U.S. Census, Joseph's his profession is listed as "painter."
On Joseph's death certificate, his profession is named as "tavern owner," and the last year he worked at this profession is listed as 1907, (which conflicts with the 1910 census).

DEATH: According to his death certificate, Joseph Nadolinski died on December 10, 1936 in Milwaukee.

BIRTHDATE DISCREPANCY:
Joseph's death certificate states that he was born in March 1855 and died at age 81, but this is NOT correct.
His tombstone says he was born in 1853, and this is also incorrect.
Joseph was born in March 1847 and was actually 89 years of age when he died. He was buried in St. Adalbert's cemetery in Milwaukee.
