VELMA RHEA BENTER, 79, of Marlow, Okla., passed away Monday, December 18, 2006 in Duncan.
Graveside services will be held in the Marlow Cemetery with Pastor Timothy Bruce Odom officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Velma was born December 1, 1927 in Scranton, Arkansas, to Leroy Needham and Minnie Mylvania Wages Needham. Velma married George W. Benter on May 22, 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death in 1997. Velma lived in California before moving to Marlow two years ago. She attended school in Hartman, Ark. Velma was a homemaker and an excellent cook. She could flip eggs without breaking the yolks. She was a happy, fun person who enjoyed reading, country music and dancing. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Marlow.
Her survivors include two sons, Harry Levine Odom and wife Carolyn of Redlands, Calif., Timothy Bruce Odom and wife Barbara of Bullhead City, Ariz.; three daughters, Patricia Ann Williams of Banning, Calif., Betty Lee Odom and husband Foster of Kentucky, Roberta Lynn Odom of Superior, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Selma Lea Davis and husband Aaron of Marlow.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Imogene James.
