Age 80, died Friday, March 22, 2002 at Appleton Medical Center due to complications from diabetes. He was born January 29, 1922 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; the son of the late Edwin and Nora (Luelloff) Nehrlich. Ray served his country during World War II in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific. After leaving the Marine Corps, Ray attended UW-Madison, majoring in journalism. In 1951, he moved to Kaukauna to work with The Kaukauna Times for 11 years. He then went to OCTC (Outagamie County Teachers College) and UW-Oshkosh to obtain his teaching certificate. He obtained his Masters degree in 1965 at UW-Superior. Ray taught elementary school in Hilbert and then in Kaukauna; retiring in 1982. Ray was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Kaukauna.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ruth (Mohr); two daughters and a son-in-law: Marcia (Don) Hoehne, Beth Broyld (fiance Willy Czeiszperger); six grandchildren: Scott, Jill, and Keith Hoehne; Elijah, Andrea, and Isaac Broyld, all of Kaukauna. Ray is preceded in death by an infant son, Todd.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Kaukauna with Pastor Nelson Craig officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Kaukauna at a later date. Friends may call at Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Drive, Kaukauna on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and directly at church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, Ray had requested that donations be made to the building fund at Immanuel United Church of Christ.
