Ida was born May 25, 1918, in Austin to Thomas and Johanna Nelson, who were Danish immigrants. Ida was the youngest of seven children. She married Robert Earl, and together they had one daughter. She later married Kenneth Lunde, on July 23, 1946, together having four children. After 45 years of marriage, she lost Kenneth in 1990.
In her early years Ida worked for the George A. Hormel Company. She was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and later became a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She was also active in the Sewing Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles and American Legion, volunteered for the American Red Cross on the bloodmobile, and was a member of the Austin Bowling Club. As a spectator she enjoyed and loved all sports. Her baking skills were not to be surpassed (especially her lefse and fudge) and they will be greatly missed. Ida was quite the card player and was glad to share her playing skills with her grandchildren and the nursing home residents.
While living in Austin she was blessed with excellent, loving home-health care provided by Marge Oxley to whom we give a special thanks.
In 1999 Ida moved to Perham Memorial Nursing Home to be closer to part of her family. While there she gained many new friendships and had excellent care from the loving staff.
Her fun, easy-going, roll-with-the-punches personality will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her children, Judy (Lou Becerra) Anderson, of Kent, Wash., Ruthann Michealson, of Minneapolis, Minn., Kay Lunde, of Owatonna, Minn., Barbara (Rick) Heimer, of Perham, Minn., Michael Lunde, of New Richland, Minn.; six grandchildren, Sheri (Stan) Noble, Lana (Mike) Eliot, Amy Nebola, Nicholas Heimer, Chad (Tricia) Heimer, Brandon Heimer; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caregivers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Tom and Johanna; five sisters, Agneta, Olga, Oda, Violet and Marie; one brother, Carl; one grandchild, Amanda Heimer.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Mayer Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Monson officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, and one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, in Minneapolis.
