Isaac Newhouse was the youngest son of Anthony and Mary Newhouse; born near Germantown.

Isaac's father Anthony "Neuhaus" immigrated from Germany before 1744, and about that same time built a paper mill at Trout Run Creek in Philadelphia Co, PA (now Montgomery Co), with Benjamin Franklin as one of his famous customers. Anthony died before 1763 in Philadelphia Co, PA. Isaac's mother Mary left a Will in Nov 1763 in Plymouth, Phil Co, PA that listed her sons Jacob, David, Jonathan & Isaac; and daughters Susannah and Sarah. In 1772, Isaac witnessed the Will of Philip Sharp in Whitemarsh, Phil, PA.

About 1770, Isaac married Catherine Van Pelt, daughter of Derrick Van Pelt and Mary Britton, probably in Churchville, Bucks Co, PA. In 1770, Isaac Newhouse approved the administrator to estate of Derrick and Mary Van Pelt.

In 1775, Isaac enlisted as a private in Captain Grier's New Britain Company, Bucks County, PA; and served during the War for Independence alongside his brothers-in-law Joseph & John Van Pelt.

By September 1779, Isaac and his family moved to Fauquier County, VA, where Isaac was baptized as a new member of the Broad Run Baptist Church, to which he and his wife Catherine belonged until October 1787, when church records show that Isaac requested to be dismissed. About that same time, Isaac moved his family to Montgomery County, VA, recorded in 1788 Montgomery Co. tax lists, and which his residence became part of Wythe Co, VA in 1789. Isaac lived in Wythe County until 1797, when he moved to adjacent Washington County, VA, and owned 490 acres along the "Poor Valley" near Brumley Creek, north of Abingdon. Isaac was listed in Washington Co, VA tax lists from 1797-1809, with his sons Isaac Jr, James, John, Samuel, and son-in-law George Williams.

In 1810-1811, Isaac moved with his son Samuel and son-in-law George Williams to Franklin Co, Indiana Territory, where he was recorded in first 1811 tax list. On 12 Sept 1820, Isaac remarried Winifred Bailey Sandifur in Fayette Co, IN; mother of his daughter-in-law Patsy Sandifur (m. son Samuel), and mother of his granddaughter Mary Williams' husband, Noah Sandifur. Isaac was listed in Aug 1820 census with his son Samuel Newhouse in Fork Prairie, Madison (now Sangamon) Co, IL. His 2nd wife Winifred was listed with son Noah Sandifur in Columbia, Fayette, Indiana in 1830, and presumed that Isaac died in Columbia, Fayette Co, Indiana before 1830.

Isaac & Catherine had following children:
*Nancy Newhouse, 1774 – 1847, m. George Williams
*Mary Polly Newhouse, 1775 – bef 1850, m. Reuben Stanton Pierce
