Mrs. Mary Newman Banka, a well known and respected resident here the past 47 years, died at their home on DeKalb avenue Thursday after an illness of four days of pneumonia.
Mrs. Banka was down town last Saturday on legal business, but on Sunday she was taken sick and failed rapidly.
She was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, on March 23, 1829. She moved to Schenectady, New York, where she was married to Charles Banka in 1854. Her husband died in Sycamore in 1900 at the age of 70 years.
To Mr. and Mrs. Banka were born five children, one of whom, Mrs. Carrie Dick, is dead. The remaining four children are: Mrs. Ella Schryber, of Pochantas, la.; John Banka, of Battle Creek, Mich. Mrs. Effie E. Merrill, of Chicago, and Mrs. Alida Rahn, who lived with her mother in Sycamore.
Mrs. Banka was a lifelong christain and was a motherly, kind-hearted woman who easily made friends. She was a member of the German Lutheran church.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the residence, Rev. C. S. Moore officiating. The interment Will be at Elmwood.
