Patricia Kathryn Newman Balzer of 214 Lexington, Quincy, Illinois, and formerly of Liberty, Illinois, took the journey to Heaven surrounded by family on September 2, 2015.
Patricia was born on September 12, 1934 at home in Brown County to Harry E. and Kathryn Mercer Newman. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1952 where she was the first Student Council President. Patricia graduated from Blessing School of Nursing in 1955. As an RN, Patricia worked at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana and Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She also served as Director of the Adams County Home Health Aid Service. Her work was an indication of her compassion for others.
Patricia married James P. Balzer, February 19, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty, Illinois. Her greatest passion was her family. She considered the years raising their three children Dudley (D.J), Kay Marie, & LeAnne as the best times ever. She also greatly enjoyed the activities of their three Grandchildren, Philip, Kyle and David.
Patricia was a lover of art and enjoyed painting the landscapes of Ghost Ranch, New Mexico and Arizona. She was a founder of the 12th street Artist Group in Quincy. She also enjoyed traveling which included two trips to Europe as well as attending painting workshops in Arizona, New Mexico, Wisconsin and North Carolina. She was a past President of Quincy Business and Profession Women Organization, a member of the Eastern Star and the Zion Lutheran Church in Liberty.
She is survived by her loving husband James. Her three beloved children Dudley (Mary) of Shorewood, Illinois, Kay Marie of San Antonio, Texas and LeAnne formerly of Wildwood, Missouri who recently relocated to Liberty, Illinois. Also, dear brothers John Newman (Doris) of Quincy, Illinois and Merwyn Newman (Shirley) of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dearest sister in law Jeanette Newman of Olathe, Kansas also survives. Additionally, Patricia is survived by her cherished grandchildren, Philip (Brittany) of Milford, Michigan, Kyle of DeKalb, Illinois and David of Goodyear, Arizona. Chandler Bing, her treasured dog, also survives.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, brother Mercer Newman, daughter in law Martha Canning Balzer and her four legged friends Lacy, Heidi and Taylor Swift.
It breaks our hearts to lose her but she did not go alone. Part of us went with her the day God took her home. A private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or Xander Cemetery both at 101 S. Main, Liberty, IL 62347.
