She was a daughter of Charles Jasper and Leathia Pearl(Cox) Newman.
She married William Dean Bumpus on August 31, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away on November 26, 1984.
She is survived by one son, Dale Bumpus and his wife Susan, one sister, Martha Fincher, two grandsons, Britton and Cole Bumpus and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven brothers, three infants and John, Earl, Robert and Charles Newman and one infant sister.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign in Savoy, and she had been very active there. She graduated from Burnham School of Nursing in 1937. She worked as a registered nurse for over fifty years. She retired from Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, in 1982 with more than fifteen years of service. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, gardening, flowers and camping.
