Obituary

Geldert, Elizabeth Ann Cannon – 73. It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Elizabeth Geldert, a much-loved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Elizabeth died peacefully surrounded by her daughters on August 27th, 2012 following an extremely determined 38 year battle against Multiple Sclerosis. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island on April 9, 1939, she was the only daughter to Ewen and Helen (Baker) Nicholson. Elizabeth graduated from Summerside High School and moved to Nova Scotia when she was 18 years old where she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia and the CBC. She moved to Montreal where she worked for Reader's Digest, before returning to Halifax to raise her family. She was a past member of the IODE, Saint Andrew's United Church UCW, the Herman's Island Women, and a proud "daughter of Helen". She enjoyed playing bridge, curling, book club, and a good dirty joke. Most recently her joy was found on her Island where the family and friends have gathered for more than 12 years. She is survived by her daughters – Nancy (Andrew) MacDonald and Beth (Ron) Girard, four grandchildren – Kate and Ben MacDonald, Zoe and Eva Girard, and her brother – Bill Nicholson, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother – Dr. Donald Nicholson, and her infant grandson – Zachary Alexander Girard. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Friday August 31st, at Saint Andrew's United Church, 6036 Coburg Road, Halifax. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. To celebrate her life, please wear bright colours. Internment at a later date in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Donations in her memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated and loving staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care, as well as to all others who have played a part in her care and well-being over the years. Online condolences can be made at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.

Go in love and dance.
