Janice Nicolson Holmes, 88, a homemaker, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007.

Janice N. Holmes was born March 5, 1919, the ninth-generation descendant of the immigrant Robert Nicolson who patented 500 acres in Charles City County, Virginia Colony, on Jan. 3, 1655.
In 1936-1937, Janice and her sister were dancers in the original Casa Manana during the Texas Centennial. From there they went to New York City, where Janice danced in the first World's Fair at Flushing, Long Island, in 1939. In 1940, she joined the Broadway musical "Streets of Paris," starring Carmen Miranda.
Janice married Jack Thomas Holmes in 1941, and went with him when he was stationed in Petersburg, Va., at Camp Lee. At the end of World War II the Holmes returned to Texas, where their daughter Niki Lynn Holmes was born. Janice was active in the art world in the 1950s and 1960s.
In 1964, Janice became a member of Pan American Round Table I and was its director 1968-1970. She was a past president of the Fort Worth Community Theatre and member of the Theatre Guild.
She became the family genealogist, with her genealogical charts housed in the Library of Congress, etc. Janice's "The Nicolson Family of Virginia 1655-1995" history is in the Fort Worth public library and many in Virginia. In 1975, Janice Nicolson Holmes became a member of the Mary Isham Keith Chapter of the DAR and a member of the Gov. Thomas Hinkley Chapter of Colonial Dames of XVII Century in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack T. Holmes, in 1991.
The family thanks her loving caretakers for their devoted services.
Survivors: Daughter, Niki Holmes Kantzios and husband, Ippokratis; grandson, Nicholas T. Kantzios of Temple Terrace, Fla.; sister, Olive N. Pemberton and husband, Clyde D. Pemberton; niece, Bonnie Pemberton Baker; and cousins and friends.
