Age 80, she had lived in Cambridge Springs since 1985 and was formerly a longtime resident of Waterford. She was a daughter of the late Carl Niemeyer and Kathryn Hamilton Niemeyer.

A graduate of Waterford Joint High School, she worked at the Erie Veterans Administration Hospital in the kitchen for ever 20 years retiring from there in 1984 as kitchen supervisor. She became part owner of the Villa Restaurant of Cambridge Springs in 1980 and worked there as cook. She was known for her pleasing personality.

On January 20, 1944 she married Morton Bissell, Sr., who died on September 19, 1979. Also preceding her in death was an infant son, Daniel Bissell; a daughter Barbara Guido in 1996; four grandsons - Robert Edward Mello, Sean Thomas Mello, Patrick Michael Mello, and Robert Kraft; a great grandson - Keagan Lentz (d 1/11/2004 age 10 months); and three brothers - Calvin Niemeyer; Elwood Niemeyer; William Niemeyer; and two sisters - Marion Shreve and Millie Briggs.

Family members surviving her include daughters - Jean Mello and her husband, Thomas of Pendergrass, Ga.; and Corann Snyder of Cambridge Springs; sons - Morton Bissell, Jr. and his wife Catherine of Houston, Texas; William Bissell and his wife, Patricia of Tucson, Ariz.; and Kenneth Bissell of Gainesville, Ga. Also surviving are three sisters - Sylvia Skelton and her husband, Paul of Waterford; Lenora Bossard of Colt Station, Pa.; and Joyce Shipley of Erie; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Interment will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
