Mary Ann Nikolic, nee Gurnic, a resident of Chicago Heights, IL, passed away peacefully, 74 years young, on Friday April 2, 2010, with her son, Daniel, and sister Rose holding her hands after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved wife of the late Daniel Peter Nikolic; loving mother of Daniel Peter Nikolic, Junior (Jennifer); proud grandmother of twins, Daniel Peter and John Matthew Nikolic; treasured sister of Edna Barbara Simmons (the late Edmund) and Rose Ann Strack; and loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was born in Chicago on June 12, 1935 and was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Gurnic; and her brothers Edward Gurnic (the late Jeanne), John Gurnic (Louise), and Eugene Gurnic.

She formed life-long friendships with Bette Radulovic and Ellen Bakovich, and with a smile and a kind word, always appreciating the good and beautiful in whomever she met, she will be greatly missed by her many friends.

Mary Ann, co-founder of Danmarie Cabinets of Chicago (founded 1960), devoted to her faith and prayer, had enjoyed her volunteer work at several hospitals.

She will be dearly missed and always remembered.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 7, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at St. John Catholic Church, 301 South Cottage Grove Avenue, Glenwood, IL. Interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday April 6, 2010 from 2 - 9 p.m. at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL (708-474-0024).
