Mrs. Hazel Nisbet Burch died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at her residence.

A graveside service for Mrs. Burch will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2003, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

A native of Lee County, Mrs. Burch had lived most of her life in Greensboro. She joined the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in September 1924 and was a faithful member for 78 years. Mrs. Burch was active in the Women of the Church, the Sunday school department and was involved in mission work and hospital visits for many years. Mrs. Burch served as Greensboro City Clerk from November 1950 until December 1977. She was the first female city clerk in Greensboro history and the first female Certified City Clerk in the United States.

Mrs. Burch is survived by two nephews, David M. Nisbet and his wife, Susan and Steven L. Nisbet and his wife, Cindy, all of Greensboro; one great-niece, Meredith L. Nisbet; two great-nephews, Joseph Brent Taylor and Thomas R. Nisbet, all of Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. "Bill" Burch; parents, A.R. & Velma Lee Chears Nisbet; brother, Thomas B. Nisbet and sister, Lucille R. Nisbet.
