Mrs. Barbara Rose Mattix, age 73, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Monday, December 28, 2015 surrounded by her family. She had a six year battle with cancer.
Barbara was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 31, 1942, the daughter of the late Herbert Nisbet and Gladys Griffith Nisbet.
Barbara worked for more than thirty years in the insurance industry having worked with Aetna Life and Provident Life and Accident. She retired from Art Laminating and Finishing and in her most recent job, she worked as a bus driver for the Carroll County School System from 2001 to 2013. She was of Christian faith and loved the Lord. Her deep faith helped her during difficult times. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Survivors include her husband, Duane Mattix of fifty seven years, sons Rev. Pete Mattix, Snellville, Steve Mattix, Dallas, and daughte, Debi Parks, Villa Rica; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Tim Henry, Blairsville, Georgia, a number of grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, December 30, 2015, 1 p.m. at New Georgia Baptist Church with Rev. Pete Mattix officiating. Her body will lie in state at the church from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the service at Melrose Hills in Villa Rica, Georgia with grandsons, Brandon, Tyler, Jake, and Trent Mattix, Jordon McDonald and Shane White serving as pallbearers.
