Betty Nolan Barnes

SHORTERVILLE. . .Betty Nolan Barnes, a resident of Shorterville, died early Wednesday afternoon, August 31, 2011, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility. She was 83.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A. M. Friday, September 2, 2011, in the Adoniram Baptist Church with Reverend Otis Derrah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 7:00 P. M. Thursday at the mortuary in Abbeville.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Adoniram Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Danny Tye, 918 County Road 28, Abbeville, AL. 36310.

Mrs. Barnes was born and reared in Eufaula, daughter of the late James Hardy Nolan and Zula Griffin Nolan. She was a graduate of Eufaula High School. Mrs. Barnes moved to the Barnes Community of Henry County in 1949 where she was an active member of the Adoniram Baptist Church. She was retired as bookkeeper from the McGee Oil Company in Abbeville. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hudson and four brothers, Gary Nolan, Carlos Nolan, Hilton Nolan and Horace W. (Charlie) Nolan.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Marvin R. Barnes, Shorterville; a daughter, Marna Barnes Barnett (Dick), Banks, AL; a son, Pete Barnes (Tina), Shorterville; four grandchildren, Samantha Vance (Michael), Krysti Boothe (Jason), Amanda Yelverton (Ben) and Anna Barnes; six great-grandchildren, Paden Knight, Sydney Boothe, Stone Vance, Rafe Vance, Alicia Cassidy and Allie Yelverton; a sister in law, Peggy Nolan Hagler, Dublin, Ga; brothers in law and sisters in law from the Barnes family, James Lawrence and Ann Barnes, Fred and Marty Barnes, Charles Barnes, Ann and Jamie Thomason and Hortense Barnes; numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Michael Vance, Jason Boothe, Dale Barnes, Ben Yelverton, Tommy Pelham and Jerry Blount.
