Mrs. Baker, was born on March 6, 1924. She was born and raised in Henderson, Ky to James and Malissa Nunn. Mrs. Baker accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Cash Creek Baptist Church. She later joined Immanuel Baptist Temple where she was a strong and faithful member. She worked in the nursery there until she was 80 years of age. In addition to her love for children, she was seldom seen without a needle and thread in her hand. She had a profound passion for sewing. She primarily altered clothing, however, she designed and created her daughter's wedding dress. She took great pride in outfitting loved ones with her own sewing creations. Every year after the passing of her oldest brother Ad, Mrs. Baker hosted the annual Christmas dinner for her family. She enjoyed cooking. Her recipes for homemade chicken ‘n dumplings, no-bake and cowboy cookies, and several others are in the kitchens of many people in the Henderson area. Mrs. Baker was the drummer of the Kitchen Band for the Gathering Place. She was a part of the Senior Citizens Olympics and could strut a good strut. Her dance card was always full. From dancing The Jesse Polka to Wipe Out, she enjoyed life to the fullest. She cherished her time spent with her many friends at the Gathering Place and playing cards.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Baker, her parents, James and Malissa Nunn, her siblings, Ad Nunn, Mary Toone, Grace Griffin, Lillie Golday, James Nunn, Negley Nunn, and Roy Nunn.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Sue Slaughter (J.B.), two step-sons, David Orsburn (Linda) and Dennis Orsburn (Tony); her four grandchildren, Luke Hanley (Amy), Kaleb Hanley (Jamey), Cody Hanley, and Malia Sellers (Matt); and her seven great-grandchildren, Taylor Hanley, Cameron Hanley, Jace Hanley, Hallie Mae Hanley, Tyce Sellers, Ansley Mae Sellers, and Emmie Hanley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Baker's Life Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel and 10 a.m. until service time Friday at Immanuel Baptist Temple. The funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Temple. Bro. Gary Puryear and Bro. Ken Gazaway will officiate.
