Mrs. Raymond P. Betit, the former Kathleen Mary O'Sullivan, a resident of Imperial Avenue, Bennington, Vt. died on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 at her home following a long illness.
She was born in Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland, daughter of Patrick and Catherine (MacSweeney) O'Sullivan. Her early education was received in Ireland and later at the Wilfred Academy in Boston, Mass.
Mrs. Betit was a licensed cosmetologist in both Vermont and Massachusetts.
Mr. and Mrs. Betit were married at Saint Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, Boston, on Sept. 23, 1950. They moved to Bennington in 1954 and have resided on Imperial Avenue since that time.
For many years, Mrs. Betit had been active with her husband in the operation of the Raymond P. Betit Insurance Agency.
She was a devout member of Sacred Heart Church for many years and more recently of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and the St. Anne's Society of the church. In earlier years she was Girl Scout leader at Sacred Heart Church.
Throughout her life she was dedicated to her family, her church and education.
Besides her husband of Bennington, she leaves four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen M. and Andrew Yen of Ithaca, N.Y., Elizabeth A. and Michael Turner of Greensboro, N.C., Mary Ellen and Dennis Keresey of Ridgefield, Conn. and Eileen P. and B. Hudson Riehle of Alexandria, Va.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Betit-Yen of Cambridge, Christopher Betit-Yen of Sommerville, Thomas E. Betit-Yen of Ithaca, N.Y., Emily K. Turner-Bolch of Durham, N.C., Maxwell Turner of Los Angeles, Calif., Sean Keresey and Brendan Keresey, both of Ridgefield, Conn., B. Hudson Riehle Jr. and Bradley P. Riehle, both of Alexandria, Va.; a nephew, Edward P. Grimes of Avon, Conn. and two nieces, Maureen Enright and Zita Treacy, both of Ireland.
She was predeceased by two sisters and six brothers.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, January 8, 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, Jan. 7, 3-5 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. The Wake Service will be offered Friday afternoon.
Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Donations in Kathleen Betit's memory may be made to the VNA and Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or to the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
All members of St. Annes Society are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, January 7, 2004 at 4 p.m. for the recitation of the Rosary in memory of Mrs. Betit.
