Bessie Sampson Bryant

Bessie J. Sampson Bryant, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1985, at St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore, with the Rev. Gene Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Highmore city Cemetery.

She was born July 26, 1903, in (Bohemia) Czechoslovakia to Mr. and Mrs. Anton (Jennie Vemmer) Ondricek. She moved as an infant with her parents to Detroit, Mich. In 1910 they moved to Banner Township, Hyde County. She was educated there and attended Normal School in Aberdeen. She taught school for four years. She married Clarence Sampson June 2, 1925, and they farmed until his death until 193. She then moved to Highmore and married Ray Bryant in 1980. She was a resident of Highmore Nursing Home for the past two years.

Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Kile of Mizpah, Minn. four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; fou sister, Ms. Tom (Josephine) Brady of Pierre, Jennie Meisner of Miller, Antoinette Edinger of Missoula, Mont., and Julia Boyd, Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Dennis Ondricek, Watertown; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, and five brothers.

~~~~~~~
Aunt Bessie was my great aunt. She was a sister to my maternal grandfather, Frank Ondricek. Her father was not Anton as listed but Joseph born 4/8/1876 in Bohemia near Velka Bukova U Krivoklatu (spelling is Bohemian so unsure if exact name). Her mother Jennie married Anton, Joseph's brother, in 1910 in Detroit. Joseph had passed away May 8, 1907. My information comes not only from Bessie's own hand but from a family tree given to my mother, Alula Marie Ondricek, long years ago that traces the children of Frantisek Vimr (the Bohemian spelling) and Josephine Chaloupka, Jennie's mother and father.
All of Aunt Bessie's siblings are now gone. Indeed all of the orginal family is passed away. To my knowledge sister-in-law, Dorothy Hemphill Ondricek, wife of Tony Ondricek (dob:1/11/11--died:1967) remains of the original Ondricek family. Sister-in-law, Verna Kopecky Ondricek, wife of Joe Ondricek (dob:8/1/1907, died-1966) passed away just a few months ago.
