Sarah J. Hayes was born near Albany, New York on Sept. 12, 1848. When a child, she moved with her parents to Wisconsin where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage in 1857 at La Seur, Minn. To William H. Hayes, who preceded her to the great beyond in 1910. She with her husband and family moved to Sherman Co. Nebr. in 1879, where she lived until 1915, since which time she had lived much of the time in Oregon and Washington, until returning to Nebr. Dec. 1919 in very poor health.

She died at the home of her son, W. A. Hayes at Cedar, Neb. January 21, 1920. She was the mother of seven children, Mrs. Ida M. Eggers, W.A. Hayes and Elfred Hayes of Cedar, Nebr., Perry Hayes of Big Creek, Nebr., Mrs. Orilla Tusler, Colorado Spring, Colo., Irvin Hayes of Oregon and Mrs. Nina Nicoson of Loup City, Nebr., all whom she leaves to mourn her death. She was a loving mother and kind friend to all in time of trouble or need. She was buried at Austin, Saturday at 2 o'clock, Jan. 24.
