It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Adolfo L. Ontiveros "OFI" as he was known to his co-workers, 79, of Las Cruces on Friday, January 29, 2016 in Ambrosio Guillen Veterans Center in El Paso, TX. He was born September 5, 1936 in Berino to Roman and Natividad Lara Ontiveros. "Mr. O" as he was fondly known to his family and friends served his country honorably in the United States Army and retired as a maintenance man from the Las Cruces Public Schools. He was an avid Aggie fan and a communicant of St. Genevieve Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Lena Ontiveros of the family home; two sons, Eddie R. Garcia of Nashville, TN, Steven M. Ontiveros (Maile) of Alford, FL; two brothers, Humberto Ontiveros of Brazito and Arturo Ontiveros of Socorro, NM; a sister, Hortencia "Tency" Ontiveros of Brazito. Other survivors include two granddaughters, Aerielle K. and Doreen K. Ontiveros; a great grandson, Noah K. Bryan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Josefa Aldaz and a brother-in-law, Chito Aldaz.
Visitation for Mr. O will begin at 6 PM Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and Friends will join together to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina. The Rite of Committal Interment will follow in the Berino Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Mexico National Guard Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League – El Perro Diablo Detachment.
Serving as casket bearers will be George Maya Jr., Ernie Garcia, Cito Vielma, Joe Guerrero, Mario Esynder and Charlie Arzabal.
