Pedro "Pete" Ontiveros passed away June 23, 2007.

Pedro was born March 10, 1910, at Rancho de Martines, Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato, Mexico. He was brought to California as a child and lived here for the rest of his life.

Pedro loved working the land and worked in agriculture for many years, including many years in the West San Fernando Valley, where he met and eventually married Dolores Avila in 1935. Pedro and Dolores would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on June 30. The young couple moved to West Los Angeles, where Pedro continued his work in agriculture, but eventually went to work at North American Aviation, where he found a career working in the fledgling space industry.

Pedro was especially proud of the work he did as a member of a specialized team that worked on the hydraulic systems of several experimental aircraft, most notably the North American X-15 rocket plane. After a career that spanned 25 years, Pedro and Dolores retired to Camarillo, where he went back to the land, working contentedly in his garden and avocado orchard.

Pedro was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved family gatherings, enjoying musical performances by his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and singing with the family.

Pedro is survived by his wife, Dolores; daughters, Olivia Hartman, Marie Dolores Everett, and Christine Van; sons-in-law, Stuard Hartman, Douglas Everett and James Van; grandchildren, Peter Wood, Lorraine Wood Newberry, Paul Wood, Armando Wood, Frank Wood, Cristina Everett Ehlers, Joseph Everett, Carmen Van O'Neill, and Devin Van; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Jesse, Lisa, Olivia, Joseph, Natasha, Ashlee, Alexis, Jacqueline, Armando Jr., Caitlin, Jack, Peter, Kelly Marie, and August.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Iglesia Bautista Buen Pastor, 808 E. First St., Oxnard, CA 93030.

A service for Pedro will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29 at Conejo Mountain Chapel of the Islands. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park, Camarillo.

Assisting the family with arrangements is Conejo Mountain Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo, CA 93012; phone 805-482-1959.
