Darrel Ardis Barker passed away peacefully on January 28, 2007 at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital, Clearwater, B.C., after a lengthy illness. Born in Nakusp, B.C. on June 8, 1935, she is survived by her husband, Steve Barker of Clearwater; daughter Teresa (Gord) Heisterman of Clearwater; son Ron (Gail) Barker of Kamloops, B.C.; brother Ray (Ingrid) Oram of Kamloops; sister June Gill of Kamloops; grandchildren Brad (Sheana) Heisterman, Laura (Colt) Bond, Sheena Marshall, Nicole and Tamara Barker; great grandchild Dezirae Bond, and many other family and friends.
Darrel was a restaurant owner - an excellent baker and cook. She was lovingly named "Staff Sergeant" as the kitchen was definitely her domain. Visitors to her home never left without receiving some of her delicious baked goods. Darrel also dedicated 29 years to judging figure skating. More than anything, however, Darrel was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all, and will forever be in our hearts.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at the Ski Hill Lodge in Clearwater.
Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Darrel's memory would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to North Thompson Funeral Services, Box 2404 RR2, Clearwater, B.C., V0E 1N0. Phone 1-877-674-3030. (The Times, Feb 5, 2007, pg 17 & Kamloops Daily. Feb 1, 2007, pg C7 )
