Based primarily at the Hoftheater of Kassel, she excelled in heavyweight Wagnerian roles such as Elisabeth in "Tannhauser", Eva of "Die Meistersinger", and Elsa from "Lohengrin". Married to Wagnerian tenor Fritz Windgassen (1883-1963), she was the mother of tenor Wolfgang Windgassen. Vali's better-known older sister, whose grave she shares, was soprano Eva von der Osten. As far as can be determined, she left no recordings.
