Her first husband, Pvt. William S Kimball, served with Co A of the NH 5th Regiment under Capt. Twitchell & Col. Hapgood.

She married him at Lebanon, ME on March 7, 1855.

He enlisted Aug 29, 1861 and there was considerable confusion as to what became of him.

Records show he was admitted to Broad & Cherry St. General Hospital at Philadelphia on June 12, 1862 for a gunshot wound to his thigh. This Kimball was thought to have been discharged in January, 1863.

Another Wm. S. Kimball died of a gunshot wound on June 20 or 25, 1864 at General Hospital #21 at Richmond, VA*.

He may have also been a POW.

_______

She remarried to Martin Giles on Jan 12, 1874.

Annie sued the New York, New Haven & Hartford railroad to recover damages for the fatal injuries Martin received while working as a night watchman in the freight yard. In January of 1901, she was awarded $3000.

Annie resided at their summer home at 14 Leonard Street, Gloucester, ca. 1903-1922.

The widow's pension file is nearly 200 pages in length, as it combines the file of both of her husbands.

*This record for a Wm S Kimball of Co A, but of NY 164th Regt., was included in the pension file.
