Lizzie L. Palmer, the daughter of Aaron S. Palmer and Adaline (nee Libby) Palmer was born on March 12, 1833 in Calais, Washington County, Maine. In her lifetime, she was married three times. The first was in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1, 1852 to Leander A. Hilliard who was born in Pittsfield, New Hampshire in 1825, son of Abraham. He is 26, she is 20 years old, a first marriage for both of them. He is a gardner. They both reside in Boston.

The death of their son Frank M. Hilliard is recorded in Boston on Feb 27, 1854 from the measels. He was born in Charlestown, MA. and was 1 year, 1 day old.

Their second son Edgar Hamlin Hilliard was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on June 6, 1855. He married Martha Ellen Kehoe of Swampscott, MA. They had one daughter Alice Hilliard who was the family historian. She never married. Edgar, like his father, died young.

Lizzie, Edgar and Leander appear on the 1860 census in Boston, MA. I can find no record of Leander's death or burial, but by the 1870 census of Worcester, MA., Lizzie is listed as a widow, keeping house for a Mr. Austin Davis who is 81 years old. Edgar is with her and is attending school.

When Lizzie married Aaron Babcock in 1892, she listed her name as Lizzie (Palmer) Stevens and the marriage as her third. Between the 1870 census and her Babcock marriage, she obviously married a Mr. Stevens. However, as of yet, I have not found it, nor any children from the marriage.

The third and last marriage was in Swampscott, MA. June 23, 1892 to Aaron Barnes Babcock, son of Josiah and Betsey (nee Boman) Babcock. Born in Berlin, MA., his second marriage (first wife Mercy K.), age 59 years, occupation Expressman. She is recorded as a nurse. He passed away in Boston in 1896. She had started to use the forename of Annie or Ann by this time.

She was a resident of Boston, MA. and a widow when she passed away in Newburyport, MA. on August 8, 1898 of sudden heart disease and is buried in Swampscott, MA. with her son Edgar Hilliard and his family.
